“Le Nord-Côtier” is the 15th youth novel published by Tania Boulet of La Cayenne.

Beloved teenage author Tania Boulet, originally from Havre-Saint-Pierre, has just published her 15th novel with Éditions Québec Amérique. The novel One step at a time tackles major existential questions about the reality of adolescents.

Her new children’s novel features Brianne, a teenager struggling with friendship and looking for new landmarks. The young woman who has to go through a friend’s move once again finds it very difficult to overcome this ordeal.

The author believes that young people will find themselves easily in this novel, since the main character has a completely “ordinary” life that anyone can identify with. In addition, her style of writing, crying out for truth, when she recounts everyday situations, evokes the reality that comes to seek out the reader.

This novel stands out from the others, since it puts forward a story of friendship. The love story is a bit more understated in this story.

The author addresses fatphobia, self-esteem and difficult relationships with parents.

Tania Boulet’s novels show that trials can make us grow.

L’adolescence

The author who also works as a physiotherapist is very fond of writing children’s novels. She likes to address the emotions of how one feels as a teenager, the insecurities, the first love stories.

“It’s a period of life that is quite emotional. It’s quite loaded at this level and it gives something quite rich to work with, ”she explains.

The one who started writing her first novel at the age of 16 says that it was normal for her to write for teenagers at that time. Continuing to write children’s novels went without saying, since she has developed a writing experience for this category of readers.

Summary of the novel

Brianne is (still!) struggling for friendship. Without reference points, she is convinced by her mother who is a little too obsessed with diets to join the running club at her school. There, she meets a very enthusiastic cultural facilitator, a girl who keeps wanting to talk to her, and Nick… the nicest guy in school. So what ? Brianne has decided that friends are over, and that she can very well finish high school on her own in her corner. With each practice, one step after another, Brianne realizes that against all odds, joining the running club might not have been the worst decision of her life…
