The ideal place to do some intellectual gymnastics.

Yes, that’s it, the subject shunned by children, misunderstood by students and unused by (most) adults: mathematics. And yet, the realm of fractions, algorithms and probabilities is worth exploring. Luckily, the National Museum of Mathematics in New York – the MoMath – takes you on a tour of the twists and turns of math, and explains them to you in very, very simple words.

Me, and Maths
We hear you from here: “a math museum !? What an idea ? “; Oh well, the maths were not among your favorite subjects at school? This is because, like spiders and broccoli, you didn’t take the time to get to know them, appreciate them …
There was already one before, on Long Island; the Goudreau Museum of Mathematics in Art and Science, opened in 1980. When it closed in 2006, and faced with the observation that there would no longer be a museum dedicated to maths in the United States (how is that possible !?) a small group of numbers enthusiasts scrambled to open another.
6 years and $ 22 million later, the MoMath, or National Museum of Mathematics, opened in Manhattan, next to Madison Square Park. Since then, hundreds of thousands of visitors have flocked to take a look at the museum’s various exhibits.
Plunge into the matrix
Were you skeptical? This was before discovering the real functions of math in everyday life. Because, yes, the mathematics are present on a daily basis in many aspects of our life.
And in the National Musem of Mathematics de New York, math comes to life; the Math Midway is a traveling exhibition, which has traveled or will travel the continent, notably by presenting the “organ function grinder” which allows you to create your own mathematical functions. Happy ?
That’s not all ! Math Midway 2 Go retained 6 of the best exhibitions of his big brother (Math Midway) and stroll through schools and bookstores. We recommend that you visit the museum in the middle of the day and in the middle of the week, because it feels quite bad to fight with a child to get on a square wheeled tricycle first.
The MoMath is quite small but condensed, and will (surely) allow you to change your view of math … or not.
