The provincial office of the Moroccan Red Crescent (CRM) of Rehamna organized, last weekend in Benguerir, capital of the province, a blood donation campaign aimed at replenishing stocks of this vital commodity.
Placed under the sign “A drop of your blood can save a life”, this operation was organized in coordination with the Regional Blood Transfusion Center (CRTS) of Marrakech and the Provincial Health Delegation of Rehamna, under the supervision of the province. This solidarity initiative made it possible to collect more than 221 bags of blood, thanks to the enthusiasm of donors from all social classes and representing different age categories.
The operation was carried out in strict compliance with preventive measures aimed at stemming the spread of the new coronavirus, including physical distancing, and in accordance with the health standards required by the competent authorities, with a valuable organizational contribution from the volunteers of the CRM.
In a statement to the MAP, the president of the provincial office of the CRM of Rehamna, Tarik Benhassi, stressed that this action was a great success, both in terms of the number of donors and in terms of awareness-raising actions. accompanied. It was an opportunity for the organizers to communicate and discuss with the donors, in order to make them aware of the importance of the culture of blood donation.
In this context, he noted that this campaign comes following the urgent appeal launched by the CRTS of Marrakech-Safi, due to the decrease in blood stocks in the various centers following the negative repercussions caused by the Covid pandemic. -19. In this context, he indicated that the provincial office of the CRM of Rehamna launched an appeal to citizens to encourage them to donate blood, in order to compensate for the lack of this vital matter in the blood banks of the Kingdom in general and in the level of the Marrakech-Safi region in particular.
Mr. Benhassi did not fail to call on the citizens of the province and civil society associations to participate massively in this type of initiative, given that blood donation contributes to saving human lives, especially women. pregnant women, people with accidents and people with chronic illnesses.
According to specialists, donating blood on a regular basis helps reduce its density and allows it to flow more easily through the blood vessels to reach the heart. It can also reduce the risk of developing certain cancers.
Created in 1957, the CRM is a voluntary relief association which provides assistance to populations in the event of disasters and in exceptional situations, through capacity building programs, first aid education and disaster preparedness. , risk reduction and awareness.
