The story begins in 1781, during the War of Independence of the United States: the conflict opposes England to its American colonies. A young soldier, Nathan Prius, writes and sells articles on the front. Betrayed by its editor, George Ellis described as a “anglican conservative and loyalist who appropriates all the merit of his articles, he decides to create his own newspaper. Thus begins the adventure of Liberty Sentinel : the story of the confrontation between these two men in a historical transcription of the time.

“It was the beginnings of a newspaper, the beginnings of the press as we know it today in a nascent nation. To do the press at the time, you had to have the means and he (Nathan Prius) really wanted to testify to what he saw. Except that he will come up against this character who does not have the same political options, he is rather dumb. side English people. So there will be a struggle of means and an ideological struggle”, explains Philippe Tarral.

This story was written by Patrice Ordas. The author died suddenly in December 2019. Philippe Tarral therefore worked alone from the screenplay written by the screenwriter. He did the storyboard and researched a lot before starting to draw. “I have to stay faithful, because he wrote so precisely that it’s perfect. What impresses me is that I find myself on my own to carry out this project, I have the impression to have carried it myself, to have written it”, he says. The hyper-realistic design by Philippe Tarral follows the detailed script by Patrice Ordas with a large amount of color and scenery. “It was the project that I had been waiting for a long time, that is to say a project that allows me to fully express myself and great comics as I imagine it”, he said again.
