Like the phoenix, the café-concert Le Gueulard always rises from its ashes. The last time was in 2015. That year, Mauro Albanese, the manager, took over the reins after supporting the emergence of the current music hall, Le Gueulard Plus, managed by the urban community. of the Val de Fensch. Personal conflicts, and a divergence of points of view, had finally moved away from it. Without regrets, perhaps not without grudges, Mauro had then resumed the Gueulard adventure, begun in 1984, where it had stopped. “Coffee has always been a place of creation, a work tool at the service of artists”, he sums up today.
Le Gueulard and le Gueulard Plus, two complementary projects forced to coexist, for better… and for worse.

The two structures have been turning their backs for eight years. The dialogue now only exists through the intermediary of the lawyers. Object of the scramble: the name of the Gueulard Plus room. For Mauro, “unfair competition” which maintains the vagueness for the public. The case was settled before the commercial chamber of the Thionville court: the café-concert lost. Mauro must pay €1,500 in damages.
At the same time, there is this old story that dates back to 2019. A story of License IV and the show business license, which are lacking at the café-concert. “I had made the request, several times, but my file was lost in the sub-prefecture. “Result: a “descent” of police officers, an evening of concert, and a summons to court. Judgment on appeal: the café-concert must close for one month, from May 4 to June 4, 2023.

And then there are these safety commissions, which constantly remind him that upgrades are necessary. For Mauro, it’s certain, we’re looking for lice. “It’s relentlessness. Their strategy is to exhaust me so that I close…”
Fortunately for him, the café-concert has its share of supporters and supporters. “It’s not me who fights, it’s the collective. I do it for them, not for me. Me, what drives me are the encounters, nothing else. »
The manager turned to the administrative court of Strasbourg, so that “this cabal ceases”. At the same time, a support kitty was launched “to finance legal costs”.
“I don’t blame anyone. They attack me, I defend myself. I fight for values, ”says the boss of Gueulard. Values that endure, against all odds.
