Loum Tchaouna recorded a narrow victory with Lazio in the Europa League against FC Twente (0-2) on Thursday night. The game in Grolsch Veste had a very unpleasant ending for the 21-year-old attacker. Tchaouna was replaced in the last minutes and was very upset by the noises he heard from the stands in Enschede.

Lazio played a match winner after the early red card for Twente goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall. Pedro gave the Italians the lead very quickly after dismissing Unnerstall. Three minutes before the end it was decided by a goal by Gustav Isaksen.

Tchaouna was replaced in the 89th minute. The attacker was visibly upset on his way to the touchline and made it clear in words and gestures that the standing supporters were treating him unpleasantly.

Tchaouna’s replacement period was discussed afterwards Ziggo Sports. “Loum Tchaouna believes that racism has been dealt with by the public of Twente,” said Hélène Hendriks. “If he were to hear that, it is of course right that he would respond like that.”

Lazio coach Marco Baroni confirms that it was a racist incident. “I don’t want to spend more words on it. I think it’s terrible what happened,” said Baroni.

Theo Janssen supports Tchaouna. “This is not possible. This is not allowed. It is not allowed anywhere, but certainly not in Holland. Act normally. If it has happened, they have to deal with these boys very hard with a stadium ban for life.”

Hendriks says UEFA has started a preliminary investigation.
