Lawyers Thijs H. do not want a prison sentence but TBS under duress

The lawyers of three-time murder suspect Thijs H. think that he does not deserve a prison sentence, but that he should undergo intensive treatment in a TBS clinic under duress. They want the court to adopt the advice from the Pieter Baan Center (PBC) for this. H. was, according to the lawyers, seriously mentally ill when he stabbed three people to death in May last year.

The Public Prosecutor yesterday demanded a 24-year prison sentence with TBS for the three murders that H. is suspected of. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the PBC’s conclusion that he was completely insane is “doubtful”, because the center did not yet have the complete file on H.

Sneer and sneer

The lawyers contradicted that today, writes regional broadcaster 1Limburg. “If even half of the criticism from the judiciary is true, then the rapporteurs are completely unsuitable for their profession. How could we ever rely on reports from the Pieter Baan Center?”

Earlier it became clear that H. had figured out on the internet how to behave to make experts think he has a serious disorder. According to the judiciary, the student has a great interest in being declared completely insane.

In their plea, the lawyers complained that the Public Prosecution Service distributed “sneer after sneer” to H.’s parents, among others, in its closing speech yesterday. Above all, they would have liked to keep their son’s hand above their heads and, according to the Public Prosecution Service, they were firmly involved in the matter, with the aim of getting H. off the hook as best as possible. The parents are “completely flared,” according to the lawyers, and have not been able to defend themselves.
