Lawyers: Shooter in US school murders in 2018 pleads guilty | Abroad

The 23-year-old man faces the death penalty. His lawyers are aiming for seventeen life sentences. There are no doubts about guilt, writes the Washington Post. He has previously confessed to the police that he was the perpetrator. He may hope to avoid the death penalty by pleading guilty in court. He had previously indicated that he did not admit guilt. The prosecutors do not want to make a deal with him and demand the death penalty.

The shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February 2018 killed 14 students and three school staff. The killings sparked a national student-led movement for tougher gun laws and greater safety in schools.
