La Vega, RD.
Lawyers for the businessman from La Vega Miguel López Florencio (Miky López), explained the legal reasons why, according to what they understand, his client was released, after a judge changed his preventive prison for an economic guarantee of one million pesos as measure of coercion.
Miky López, was imprisoned for 6 months, accused by the Public Ministry of being the head of an alleged money laundering network that involves a deputy and a councilor from that province.
Judge Martín de la Mota, of the Second Investigative Court of La Vega, was the one who varied the preventive detention.
Luis Bernardo Félix, Amado Gómez and Esteban Pérez, legal representatives of the vegan businessman, through a press conference explained the legal procedures that were exhausted for their client to be released.
Amado Gómez, stated that at the time that his client was placed in preventive detention, he was accused of violating the money laundering law, an accusation that the Public Ministry has not been able to sustain.
The lawyer also indicated that the judge, in the variation of the measure of coercion, also excluded, the accusation of money laundering and the binding of law 50-88 on drugs; upholding the charge of tax evasion.
Miguel López Florencio, obtained his freedom on December 2. His arrest took place on June 29, 2020, prior to the presidential and congressional elections, where the family of López Florencio, who is the husband of Rosa Amalia Pillarte, current for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), were also subjected.
