Lawyers close to Pedro Castillo file a new complaint against Peru’s attorney general

Two lawyers close to Peruvian President Pedro Castillo this Wednesday filed a complaint against Patricia Benavides, the Peruvian State Attorney General, accusing her of prevarication, just one day after having constitutionally denounced the Peruvian president for corruption.

Lawyers Raúl Noblecilla and Ronald Atencio, who filed a complaint against Benavides for concealment of staff last week, argued that the head of the Prosecutor’s Office acted illegally after filing a constitutional complaint against the President of the Republic of Peru, registered according to the the country’s constitution, the RPP radio station reported.

“I propose a criminal complaint against Patricia Benavides Vargas, prosecutor of the Nation, for the commission of the crime of unlawful criminal prevarication, provided for by article 418 of the criminal code and sanctioned with a maximum penalty of 5 years”, reads the complaint filed by both lawyers. .

Noblecilla and Atencio said the head of the prosecutor did not limit himself to his constitutional powers after issuing a statement against the president of Peru, something that the Peruvian Magna Carta does not allow, according to the newspaper ‘La República’.

“This is a blatant violation of a constitutional article and this is called prevarication,” said lawyer Ronald Atencio.

This is the second complaint that the jurists have filed against Benavides in less than a week. Last Friday, the State Attorney General was accused of the crime of concealing personnel by withdrawing Supreme Prosecutor Bersabeth Revilla from the trial against Emma Benavides, sister of the head of the public prosecutor and investigated for the alleged crime of passive corruption and illicit association
