Lawyers for former Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) frontman Rizieq Shihab, Sugito Atmo Prawiro stated that his party was still waiting for confirmation from the Jakarta High Court regarding the decision to release his client from prison in the crowd case. scattering and Megamendung today, Monday (9/8).
“Yes [masih nunggu] for sure,” said Sugito to CNNIndonesia.com, Monday (9/8).
Sugito said that his party was trying to ask the Jakarta High Court for the release procedure so that Rizieq could be released from prison today.
However, he does not deny that there are other ways that the Court can use so that his client can remain in detention. One of them is by extending the detention period.
He said this could happen considering that the case for spreading false news about the swab test at the Ummi Hospital, which sentenced Rizieq to four years in prison, was still in the appeal process at the Jakarta High Court.
It is known, Rizieq has appealed the decision of the East Jakarta District Court regarding the four-year prison sentence in the case of spreading false news of the Covid-19 swab test at Ummi Hospital, Bogor to the DKI Jakarta High Court.
“It’s now another appeal [perkara RS Ummi] 4 years. There is potential to be used [oleh Pengadilan] even though he hasn’t signed up yet, he’s still in detention,” he said.
Sugito said that Rizieq should be free in the Megamendung and Petamburan crowd cases today.
“Try later clay there may be an extension of detention because [hukuman penjara] That 4 years. If the matter of Ummi Hospital is waiting for inkrah, sometimes they are no want Habib Rizieq to be free. Maybe there are other ways that their side is using,” he added.
Rizieq has been detained by the police since December 2020 in connection with the crowd case.
Rizieq has been sentenced to eight months in prison in the case of a crowd at Petamburan, Central Jakarta by the East Jakarta District Court. However, Rizieq appealed the decision to the Jakarta High Court.
During the appeal process, the DKI Jakarta High Court upheld the decision of the East Jakarta District Court in the Petamburan crowd case. In this case, Rizieq was sentenced to eight months in prison.
“To strengthen the decision of the East Jakarta District Court dated 27 May 2021 Number: 221/Pid.Sus/2021/PN.Jkt.The team for which an appeal was requested,” reads the verdict of the Jakarta High Court Judges.
In addition, regarding the Megamendung crowd case, the DKI Jakarta High Court still sentenced Rizieq to a fine of Rp. 20 million, subsidiary to five months in prison. Rizieq has chosen to pay a fine of IDR 20 million in the case.
