Felipe Jiménez was sworn in as a lawyer in 2014, and later studied music.
It was at the age of eleven that Felipe Jiménez’s interest in the piano was born, self-taught, and during high school he had a brief stay at the Conservatory of the Music Institute of the PUCV, in 2003. “At that time my interests were variables and I abandoned my studies, to finally enter a law degree at the University of Valparaíso. After graduating as a lawyer, I have studied jazz piano and musical production, and I am currently pursuing private piano studies with the national pianist José Tomás Moscoso,” he says.
Felipe Jiménez graduated from the Law School of the University of Valparaíso in 2011 and carried out his professional practice at the Judicial Assistance Corporation, later being sworn in as a lawyer in 2014. He currently works as a support lawyer within the Judicial Branch. But music is still an important part of his life.
This is how an important milestone in his musical career was marked in December last year, when, thanks to his compositions for the film “The Portrait of Her,” the film won the award for Best Soundtrack at the Film Festival. Latin American Ibero from Trieste, Italy.
Composition and musical production
Asked about the way in which he currently combines the exercise of his two professions, Felipe assured that “it is not easy, since both require a lot of time and energy, which is why I have had to ‘filter’ some activities and priorities throughout my life. labor”.
“My path in music has consisted, until now, of resuming studies in various musical areas, from my degree as a lawyer to the present, as well as composing and producing music for the aforementioned audiovisual works,” he stated.
“In the musical field, my most important work so far has been composing and producing the soundtrack for the film ‘El portrait de ella’, by Chilean director Fernanda Altamirano, premiered at SANFIC 2022 and winner of the award for Best Soundtrack at the Ibero Latin American Film Festival of Trieste. After this project, I composed and produced the music for the Chilean documentary ‘Con Quiver’, premiered at the Valparaíso International Photography Festival in 2023,” she added.
Regarding the recent award given in Italy, he explained that “it was a work closely with the director of the film, to whom I am grateful for inviting me to participate in this project. The working dynamic was that, based on the file without music, we both proposed ideas about where and how the music should be, and I tried to translate and musically interpret the director’s thoughts. “There was a lot of trust and connection.”
The Instagram page of the aforementioned film (@elretratodeella) indicates in the award announcement publication that “working with Felipe Jiménez was a very intimate musical journey, where we delved into Ana’s emotions. Immersed in dialogues about the tone and the sonority of his psychological state where through the piano, cello and electronic effects we find the result of the soundtrack.”
In the film, Felipe Jiménez was in charge of the musical composition and production, in addition to the piano. On the other hand, the cello was under the responsibility of Eduardo Simpson, and the mastering was in the hands of Ricardo Luna.
