Radio America. A recent ruling by the Electoral Court of Justice (TJE) would be leaving the Salvador Party of Honduras (PSH) without representation at the level of deputies in the departments of Cortés and Choluteca.
The situation opens a new controversy in the electoral politics of the country due to a conflict that had occurred within the PSH last August where an appeal was filed with the National Electoral Council (CNE).
At that time, the disagreement centered on the fact that the PSH forms had been prepared by hand by the secretaries of Strategy Julio Larios and Ana María Segovia, given that the national directory had not called for elections in the assemblies for all levels in a timely manner.
According to a source, the ECJ decided in the early hours of this day to partially declare the appeal for reconsideration filed by the lawyer René Adán Tomé, legal representative of eight of the plaintiffs.
They claim to be members of the majority of the plenary session of the national board of the Salvador Party of Honduras, which is why they spoke out against resolution number 1264-2021 issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE) on August 2, 2021.
The CNE begins printing 16 million ballots for general elections
The legal professional -René Adán Tomé- spoke in this regard stating that what is currently in dispute cannot be on the electoral ballots, therefore, a gap is opened around the printing of the same.
“There is a responsibility on the part of the CNE that appeals to a higher authority, such as the ECJ, the council must wait for that resolution,” he said.
By not having an answer, he explained, a resolution that is being reviewed by the higher body cannot be executed.
“In this case the Court of Justice resolved the appeal and in it indicates that there are 5 days for the PSH to integrate the forms for two departments,” he clarified.
“So it is clear that the period of five business days is out of the printing of the ballots,” he said.
The lawyer in charge of the appeals added that in any case it could happen that the ballots continue to be printed without the participation of both departments.
“That is why the news has emerged that the PSH was left without those two departments -Choluteca and Cortés-“, he added.
Tomé is of the criterion that the CNE must continue with its process according to the electoral schedule “those who are litigating are those who have their particular problem.”
In this sense, the opposition is of the opinion that what the ruling party seeks is to reduce the possibility of the PSH obtaining a greater number of deputies in Congress.
