According to Hammerstein, her client has stated from the outset that he came home from work last Thursday. He would have stopped immediately after a stop sign from the police. “He cooperated with the investigation”, writes the lawyer. “No criminal goods were found in his car.”
The counsel states that her client’s statement is currently being verified. An investigation would also be conducted into the ‘other circumstances that led the police to assume a threat’.

Hammerstein understands that there has been unrest among the police. “But it is important to await the investigation before portraying my client in the media as the perpetrator of a very serious crime.”
“Since it has not been ruled out to date that this is due to a misunderstanding, I request the media to respect the privacy of my client and his company,” she finally wrote in the statement.
Suspected of preparing a crime
The Public Prosecution Service suspects the man of preparing a serious crime that carries a prison sentence of eight years or more.
The man was brought before the examining magistrate of the court in Amsterdam yesterday afternoon. It determined that the man will be detained for at least three more days. After that, the pre-trial detention can be extended.
