A lawyer specializing in malpractice and negligence went viral on TikTok after you reveal the questions that every patient should ask doctors before undergoing surgery.

User Tommy, better known as @tommythelawyer on social media, explained that every patient has the right to know the role of the resident doctor who will be part of the intervention.

“I promise you will want to ask this question every time you have surgery, whether it is you or a loved one”explained the American in a clip that exceeded 2 million views.

“Ask them, ‘What role will the resident play in my surgery?’”he stated, explaining that a resident is a doctor-in-training.

Although they are “technically medical” because they passed the exams necessary to practice as such, “they are, by definition, in formation”said the lawyer, who is dedicated to providing legal advice to his more than 186,000 followers.

Residents, he continued, are involved in almost any type of surgery. “They can have from 0 days of experience, one day of experience, up to 2 years of experience”, said; however, this is something that the patient is unaware of.

On the other hand, the professional added that it is imperative to know what role these people will have when entering the operating room.

“Are they going to keep the incision open or are they going to cut you open? Or are they going to take a more active role in your surgery?”he added. “He is allowed to know this, and he should be allowed to have information about the role they have”.
