The Public Ministry confirmed that The lawyer Juan Pablo Hermosilla will assume the representation of the first woman who denounced the former soccer player Jorge Valdivia for an alleged crime of rape.
The Eastern Prosecutor’s Office has already been notified that the complainant left the representation of the legal area of the National Service for Women and Gender Equality (SernamEG) and until now the only thing missing was for the sponsorship and power to be formalized.
After learning of the complainant’s decision, SernamEG indicated that “We fully respect the will and autonomy of the victims to decidein this case, continue the judicial process with a private lawyer.”
“As SernamEG we made our legal guidance, support and sponsorship available from the first moment, focusing on the protection of the victim. We will continue to provide psychosocial support and maintain our commitment to accompany her in the recovery stage,” they added.
The The Eastern Prosecutor’s Office formalized the investigation against the former soccer player on October 22, where Judge Ely Rothfeld, of the Eighth Guarantee Court of Santiago, decreed his preventive detention. This precautionary measure was modified last Monday when the First Chamber of the Court of Appeals of Santiago revoked the regime and decreed nighttime house arrest in its replacement.

Valdivia put forward a defense: “I do not know the motivations for that action, but I categorically deny having sexually assaulted any person,” he stated in the text. “I had a consensual relationship with an adult woman“, he declared, apart from making the clarification of the serious charges available to the Prosecutor’s Office. He also called on the media “to exercise caution and protect my right to the presumption of innocence.”
