On the morning of this Tuesday, the lawyer who had been representing the American citizen resigned due to alleged threats he has received.
The hearing for the request for an insurance measure against the American citizen John Poulos, accused of ending the life of his partner, the young DJ Valentina Trespalacios in Bogotá, is scheduled for today.
Threats through calls and messages would have made the lawyer who had been representing him decide to resign from continuing to represent him legally in the preliminary hearings.
“I ask that you accept this withdrawal, because the one who has the last word is you, as a guarantee control judge. Not without first advising, despite the fact that these hearings should be reserved to guarantee the safety of those of us who intervene,” said lawyer Martín Riascos.
Juan Manuel Falla, lawyer for the Ombudsman’s Office, will continue to represent Poulos, after the guarantee judge accepted Riascos’ withdrawal.
“He asked on several occasions from the beginning of his capture to have a translator so he could call a lawyer. He wants a trusted lawyer, but he hasn’t been able to call and no one speaks English. For this reason, he assures that this has been detrimental to his case,” said the translator.
