The lawyer and specialist in historical memory Eduardo Ranz has registered a letter addressed to the General Secretariat of the City of León late this Sunday to request compliance with articles 35 and following of Law 20/2022, of October 19, of Democratic Memory and asks that ” the elements contrary to democratic memory in the town hall of León, especially General Lafuente street, and measures are taken to restore legality”, after the denunciation of this medium.
General Lafuente, points out in the document, “constitutes the apology of Francoism which precisely resigns itself with the first law on historical memory of 2007, and with the current law on democratic memory”.
The lawyer and doctor of Leonese origin took this initiative, as he himself points out, following ILEÓN’s complaint about Franco’s repression in which he recalls that “an example of the harsh repression by General Lafuente was personally suffered by Captain Juan Rodríguez Lozano , shot in 1936, aged 42”, grandfather of former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.
Ranz, on the other hand, includes in his letter a reminder that on August 30, 2022 he was notified by the City Council of the opening of the file “to start the procedures to enter the name of José María Calleja in the name of Leonese street ” .
