Lawyer denounces that the Penitentiary Regime prevented the ITEI’s expert opinion on former President Áñez | ANF

On August 25, the ITEI reported that former President Jeanine Áñez accepted that this instance perform medical and psychological tests on her, following the request made by her defense. On that date, the institution suggested a “fair trial” with presumption of innocence for the ex-president.

La Paz, October 13 (ANF) .- The lawyer Jorge Valda denounced this Wednesday that the Directorate of Penitentiary Regime and the governor of the Miraflores prison prevented the entry of specialists from the ITEI (Institute for Therapy and Research on the Aftermath of Torture and State Violence) to carry out expert reports medical and psychological to former president Jeanine Áñez.

Valda indicated that, despite repeated requests from forensic experts to enter the prison, the authorities never responded.

“Unfortunately they did not allow the entry of the ITEI experts or its director despite the fact that they sent repeated notes to the Penitentiary Regime and to the governor of the Miraflores prison, they did not receive any response, so their work could not be carried out”, Valda told ANF.

ANF asked for the counterpart of the Directorate of Penitentiary Regime, but did not receive a response.

On August 25, the ITEI reported that former President Jeanine Áñez accepted that this instance perform medical and psychological tests on her, following the request made by her defense. On that date, the institution suggested a “fair trial” with presumption of innocence for the ex-president.

“I understand that she has accepted, we are going to begin to do the medical and psychological examinations,” said the executive director of the ITEI, Emma Bolshia Bravo, in an interview with radio Erbol.

Valda reported that a week ago Áñez’s defense presented a request to the Public Ministry and the jurisdictional authority for “this new outrage” of the Penitentiary Regime, by not allowing the entry of the experts.

“We are awaiting the answer, and in case it is rejected, we could go to the corresponding instances, because the ITEI is recognized even by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and it cannot be that they are not allowed to carry out upon request. of a person deprived of liberty, an action that is precisely within the competences and powers of this organization ”, he emphasized.

Given the refusal of the Government about the mistreatment of the former president, as denounced by Áñez’s family, the expertise of independent experts was important to demonstrate the mental and psychological health situation of the former president, a situation that was prevented by the Penitentiary Regime, Valda denounced .
