Judge Jimmi Brener made known the reasons why he authorized the capture of the lawyer Claudia González, former president of the International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG), for which he decided to send her to preventive detention at the Mariscal Zavala prison, the hearing of first declaration was established for September 6.
Despite having sent an excuse for not attending the summons against the lawyer González, the Public Ministry was present, but to request the suspension of the hearing.

After several raids by the Internal Affairs Prosecutor’s Office and the National Civil Police (PNC), the Public Ministry confirmed the capture of Claudia González, lawyer for the former head of the FECI, Juan Francisco Sandoval, and Virginia Laparra.
The MP announced early this Monday that the operations were carried out in zone 5 of the capital, as well as at homes located in San Miguel Petapa and Mixco. One of the houses searched was that of the lawyer González, who is accused of the crime of abuse of authority in the case “Illegal Criminal Persecution.”
It should be remembered that the investigation into this case began against Blanca Stalling, a magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice, who was accused of trying to influence Judge Carlos Ruano so that her son would benefit from the IGSS-PISA Chiquimula case.
The Public Ministry also reported that in a building in San Miguel Petapa they located firearms and cash.
Reactions to the capture of Claudia González
The news of the operations spread early. The former head of the FECI, Juan Francisco Sandoval, published, from his exile in the United States, that one of the raided houses was that of his parents.

The operations and the capture of González have generated multiple reactions at the national and international level. This includes that of the Secretary General of the Organization of American States, Luis Almagro, who ruled on this case.
