In Viña del Mar The trial against the lawyer Ricardo González Latorreaccused of two homicides qualified by treachery and poisoning –one frustrated and another accomplished– committed in German Villa y quilpue in the years 2012 and 2018, respectively.
This is a defendant qualified as “illustrated“by the Public Ministry, which used “his intelligence in the commission of the illicitand that he programmed them in advance”.
I had as a method gaining the trust of his victims, persuading them to take out life insurance, and then murdering them -using methanol- to collect on the policies.
The first crime was committed, according to the accusation, against Luis Olivareswhom he knew for 15 years and convinced to take out insurance at the beginning of 2012.
Weeks later, he invited the victim to a plot of land in Villa Alemana, where poured him a drink with a toxic substance and then threw it into a holefrom which the affected person managed to escape and survive.

The second event dates back to 2018: González met Natalia Veliz Lopez proposing business and motivated her to take out insurance. Later, when the woman wanted to end the employment relationship, he invited her to drink and, inside a car, he served her alcohol with methanol, causing a serious deterioration of her health.
“SERIAL KILLER”
The woman passed away a week later. and, after that, the lawyer went to ask for the victim’s clinical record, “a document that is needed to collect insurance.” Because the secretary in charge was a relative of the deceased woman, the alarms went off, says Nicole Reyes, eldest daughter of the deceasedwhich affirms that González is “a serial killer”what “been doing this since 1997”.
“If we couldn’t save my mother, (the objective) is that she doesn’t kill another person again, because the lives of all the victims left behind children, mothers, families who still mourn them,” he says.

Caroline Veliz, another daughter of Natalianoted through tears, after today’s hearing, that “It’s hard to see the person who killed your mom sitting there like nothing…“.
“The only thing I want is for justice to be done, the only thing we need is that, to have a bit of peace of mind. Perhaps we will not recover anything, but we will be calmer. Perhaps she will rest in peace,” he reflected.
For the lawyer for the Veliz family, María Fernanda Cuevasthis case involves exceptional events “due to the number of victims it has left on the road the defendant, who give an account of a enduring pattern over timewhich has allowed him to live in impunity for almost 20 years”.
SUSPICIONS
As part of the trial witnesses, he explained the prosecutor Hernan Silvathey will come relatives of at least two people who are not victims in the casebut what died under strange circumstances in which González was close.
“Let’s believe that he made a living out of insuranceknowing that he could avoid leaving traces, that he would get away with committing the crimes,” Silva said, noting that some of the insurance that the defendant collected exceeded 100 million pesos.
The lawyer took notes during the course of the opening day of the trial, which could earn him a life sentence.
One of the cases “under suspicion” is that of Marcelo Montecinos: He was very close to González and died in 2016 from a multisystem failure after “burning inside”, according to brother Cristián. The funeral was attended, on the date, by the lawyer González.
“About two years passed and Ricardo called me about an insurance that my brother had. (…) He made an appointment with me at the bank, gave me some money and I never saw him again, I thought it was an inheritance“, says Marcelo, who after learning of the accusations against the professional through television went to the police.
The Public Ministry requests a sentence of qualified life imprisonment for Ricardo González, and an insurance company that participates as a plaintiff in the trial requests a sentence of three years and one day for the crime of fraud.
