To the founder and president of the far-right party Vox, Santiago Abascal (Bilbao, Basque Country, 1976), he is better known in Spain for his troubles outside of politics, than for his contributions to it.
If one looks at the résumé of the so-called “new champion” of the Spanish extreme right, one can see that he is a man who, above all, has lived by collecting public money. Youth and government
Santiago Abascal He joined the PP at 18 years old and since he was 23 he has lived off public money.
Between 1999 and 2007 he was a councilor in the Llodio City Council (Basque Country). In parallel, he continued his career and was president of new generations of the PP.
From 2004 to 2009 he held a seat in the Basque Parliament. In 2006 he created Deans (Foundation for the Defense of the Spanish Nation), an ultra-nationalist lobby financed with public money. For five years (2008-13) this body received a grant of 281,055 euros from the Community of Madrid, then chaired by Hope Aguirre who, when Abascal ran out of a seat, rescued him to give him a job.
In those three years, Abascal collected more than 270 thousand euros and just the day the foundation was dissolved, it registered Vox as a political party, which in the last elections managed to consolidate itself as the third political force in the country with 52 deputies
Luxury chalet
As net perceptions, his known asset declaration indicates that in 2018 he earned 55 thousand 148.54 euros, coming entirely from Vox. Since 2019, after his emergence in Parliament, his income has multiplied. Last year he received around 120 thousand euros per year.

The new house is just a 10-minute walk from his old residence in Hortaleza: Before he lived in a modest apartment, now he lives in an authentic luxury villa, and in 2010 he was evicted from his home, due to non-payment.
