Lawson reflects on Ricciardo’s presence in Singapore and his future opportunities at AlphaTauri

Liam Lawson, the young driver who takes over for Daniel Ricciardo at the AlphaTauri team due to Ricciardo’s broken wrist, reflects on Ricciardo’s presence in Singapore. The young New Zealander also takes a look at his own future opportunities within the team and the possibility of racing at the Japanese Grand Prix.

Ricciardo was back in the paddock for the first time last weekend after his wrist fracture. The Australian was only present for technical purposes. Lawson spoke about the benefits of Ricciardo’s presence. ‘Of course it is very positive to have him here. He has a lot of experience and experience helps the team. It’s been good for me too since I’ve been back. I think it’s very positive to have someone like him,” the New Zealander told Pit Debrief. Lawson finished the Singapore Grand Prix in ninth place, earning the first points of his Formula 1 career.

What will be the line-up for AlphaTauri?

The New Zealander’s impressive results have him being considered for a seat at AlphaTauri for next season. However, this does not create more pressure to perform for the young driver. “For me, that’s not what I’m focusing on. I’m focusing on maximizing every session I have this season. Then I’ll look back and think I did everything I could. But that is for them to decide, not for me,” Lawson said. Due to Lawson’s good performance, three drivers are fighting for a spot at AlphaTauri for next season. Although rumors are swirling that Ricciardo is the favorite for one of those seats, the two young drivers, Yuki Tsunoda and Lawson, are proving that they are competition for the Australian.

The Japanese Grand Prix will take place this weekend. Suzuka is a familiar circuit for Lawson because of his career in Super Formula. ‘I would like to drive there. Of course I have some experience. I know it a little better than Singapore, so it would be great to drive there,” the AlphaTauri driver emphasizes.
