A lawmaker exploded three grenades at a local council in Ukraine, injuring 26 people, including this lawmaker, and six others were seriously injured.
According to the BBC and Ukrainian local media on the 15th (local time), an explosion occurred at the Keretsky parliament conference hall in Ukraine’s Zakarpatya region around 11 a.m. on this day. The meeting was being broadcast live on Facebook when the incident occurred. The scene in which a man entered the conference hall pulled out the safety pins of three grenades in front of the door and threw them on the floor was captured on video.
At the time, lawmakers debated next year’s budget and this year’s settlement of accounts. Almost 90 minutes into the meeting, one of the lawmakers was seen shouting in opposition to the budget proposal. Afterwards, the man in the black jacket left the room, taking another man with him.
A few minutes later, the man in the black jacket returned and stood in front of the door. Then, he suddenly pulled out two grenades from his pocket, drawing the attention of those present. Then, the man dropped a total of three grenades on the floor. Since a total of three explosions were heard, it is assumed that all three grenades exploded.

According to police, a total of 26 people were injured, including six who were seriously injured. The suspect was among the seriously injured, and medical staff reportedly performed CPR on him. The police did not disclose the man’s specific identity, but he was later known to be Serhiy Batrin (54), a member of the Servant of the People party led by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
This incident is not related to the war in Ukraine, and the exact motive for the crime is unknown. Rep. Batrin is said to have antagonism toward the ruling party and has criticized corruption in local authorities.
Currently, police, bomb disposal experts, and forensic experts are at the scene and are investigating the case. Immediately after the incident, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) began an investigation into suspicion of terrorism and handling of illegal weapons under Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (acts of terrorism).
