President Iván Duque recently sanctioned Law 2194 ‘Rebuilding Dreams’, authored by the representative to the Chamber, Juan Fernando Reyes Kuri, which seeks to guarantee the reconstruction of both breasts to women who have suffered from breast cancer in Colombia.
Juan Fernando Reyes assured that “this is a key law to guarantee the reconstruction of the breasts of women recovered from cancer. This is undoubtedly a law that benefits thousands of women.”
Regarding the term that women who decide to receive this treatment have, the representative to the Chamber mentioned that “the first thing that is needed is that the doctor orders it, second, reconstruction has to be guaranteed, and third, the obligation that the Ministry establishes the maximum treatment response times”.
In the same way, he specified that, being a law, it must be complied with by the different health entities, otherwise, they would be faced with the law.
“It is already in the law that it is mandatory to do so, those who do not do so will receive a sanction for not complying with it. This is a right that women have, it is an achievement and a very important advance”, she indicated.
Reyes also noted that passing this law was difficult because “it was a year and a half fighting, battling to make it happen, but we managed to pass the law after working hard and today it is a reality.”
