DPR has passed three laws on the formation of three new provinces in Papua. Then, what are the districts that are included in the three new provinces?
For information, the three new provinces that have been ratified are Papua Mountains Province, Central Papua Province and South Papua Province. The ratification of the bill for the three provinces into law was carried out by the DPR in a plenary meeting, Thursday (30/6/2022).
In the draft bill which has been passed into law, there is an explanation of the list of regencies that are part of Central Papua, South Papua and Papua Mountains. Here’s the list:
Region List Central Papua:
Article 3
(1) The Province of Central Papua originates from a part of the territory of the Papua Province which consists of:
a. Nabire District;
b. Puncak Jaya Regency;
c. Paniai Regency;
d. Mimika Regency;
e. Puncak District;
f. Dogiyai District;
g. Intan Jaya Regency; and
h. Deiyai District.
(2) Island Coverage in the Province of Central Papua is listed in the annex which is an integral part of this Law.
(3) The area coverage as referred to in paragraph (1) is described in the regional map listed in the attachment and is an inseparable part of this Law.
In the map listed in the appendix to the law, which was recently passed by the DPR, there are 50 islands that fall into the territory of Central Papua. 44 islands are in Nabire Regency and six islands are in Mimika Regency.
Article 6
The capital city of Central Papua Province is located in Nabire Regency.
