Lavrov: We have information that mercenaries are being sent to Ukrainian regions to throw Russia off balance

Lavrov also expressed concern over Kiev’s refusal to hold direct talks with the leaders of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics to end the civil war.

Russia has information that mercenaries from Kosovo, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina are being sent to Donbass, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, NOVA reported.

“German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and all other NATO leaders say the Alliance is defensive. At a news conference after Scholz, Russian President Vladimir Putin reminded him of the 1999 bombing of Yugoslavia. Scholz said NATO had intervened to “Prevent the genocide of Kosovo Albanians, that everything has been successful and that the region is now thriving,” Lavrov said.

But according to the minister, the region is “far from flourishing”.

“Kosovo and some other parts of the Western Balkans are becoming a breeding ground for crime. There are terrorists, drug dealers. It is a place to recruit mercenaries involved in conflicts that are gradually flaring up, including from the United States. “Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina are recruiting mercenaries who are being sent to Donbass, among other places, to throw Russia off balance. We are currently verifying this information,” the foreign minister said.

Lavrov also expressed concern over Kiev’s refusal to hold direct talks with the leaders of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics to end the civil war and reports of a drastic increase in heavy weapons fire on Donbass banned by the Minsk agreements. Kiev, according to the foreign minister, is responsible for sabotaging the ceasefire agreements.

“We stressed that there is no alternative to the implementation of the Minsk agreements in their entirety. And, of course, we stressed our serious concern over Kiev’s statements that it will not have a direct dialogue with Donetsk and Luhansk. This is a direct challenge and a direct refusal to the Minsk agreements are being respected, “Lavrov told reporters.

Western statements about Russia’s “invasion” of Ukraine are propaganda, falsifications and fabrications, the Russian foreign minister said.

I am sure that people who are more or less interested in foreign policy are convinced that all this is propaganda, falsifications and fabrications. The important thing is that the authors of these falsifications themselves believe what they say. And they like it. “If someone is happy, please! Why not do it?” Lavrov said.

Politico has already changed the date of the “invasion” several times. It now announces February 20th. At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Trass said that the “invasion” could follow at any time. They are already “working” on this perspective.

U.S. Secretary of State (Anthony) Blinken said the “invasion” was a matter of weeks, maybe even days. We know that the State Department has confidentially informed its NATO allies that they must expect an “invasion” by the end of February. At the same time, the Secretary General of the Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, stated that he had no data on the 100 percent probability of an “attack”, the Foreign Minister added.

He noted that at the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: “Whatever happens, we must be vigilant.”

“They say that even if Russia withdraws its troops, the threat will not disappear. They are laying the bricks of the future,” the minister explained.

Moscow and Washington have made little progress on key issues related to security guarantees, Sergei Lavrov said.

“We are in correspondence with our American colleagues. We responded to their response to our initiatives in December. So far, we have made little progress on issues of principle. We will advocate a comprehensive approach,” the minister said.

According to him, a serious agreement on the applied issues cannot be reached if the parties have not decided on the conceptual and political basis of the interaction.
