Lavrov put forward a condition for Turkey to extend the grain initiative

It is reported that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu met today on the sidelines of the G20 summit.

In particular, the parties discussed the prospects for the implementation of the grain initiative. Lavrov noted that the continuation of the “package” agreement on grain is possible only if the interests of Russian producers of agricultural products and fertilizers in terms of unhindered access to world markets are taken into account.

Lavrov and Cavusoglu also discussed Russian-Turkish relations and cooperation in the trade and economic sphere.

Recall that earlier Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Vershinin said that the extension of the “grain agreement” would be “inappropriate” if sanctions affecting agricultural exports are not lifted from the Russian Federation.

In addition, Ukraine called on the international community to stop Russia’s attempts to block the work of the grain agreement.

Ukraine also sent an appeal to the UN and Turkey regarding the start of negotiations to extend the grain initiative, but did not receive a response.
