Lavreysen closes the track cycling World Cup with a new gold

Ballerup. The Dutch cyclist Harrie Lavreysen, who on Friday became the most successful rider in the history of the track cycling World Championships, reached 16 titles after his victory in individual speed this Sunday at the closing of the competition in Ballerup, Denmark.

Day after day, the flying dutch He wrote history without leaving even a crumb to his rivals.

Untouchable in the sprint, the five-time world champion won the premier event on Sunday for the sixth consecutive year to further enrich a legendary track record.

He easily defeated his compatriot Jeffrey Hoogland in the final, with whom he won the team sprint on Wednesday.

Two days later and thanks to his victory in the non-Olympic kilometer event, he surpassed Frenchman Arnaud Tournant, 14-time world champion between 1997 and 2008.

The ‘king of sprint’ now has six world team speed titles, as many as individuals, three in keirin and one in the kilometer.

At the pace of one World Cup per year, his limit is ‘infinite’ and ahead of the Los Angeles Games he aims to surpass the record of seven Olympic titles held by British legend Jason Kenny.

The last day was also marked by the victory at home of the Danish Julie Leth, who at 32 years old was competing in the last test of her career in an erupting velodrome.

After winning the American category the day before, Leth also won the points, ahead of the Belgian star Lotte Kopecky and the Irish Lara Gillespie.

The Colombian representation closes these championships with the only medal from Kevin Quintero, bronze in keirin. Spain, for its part, also added a metal, the gold won by Sebastián Mora in the points race.
