For the moment, the situation does not lead to a break in medical coverage for residents of Laval, even though the outbreak affects 10% of emergency physicians at the hospital.

“Medical coverage is assured. Emergency physicians only have to add shifts to their schedule, ”emphasizes Geneviève Goudreault, acting deputy general manager of the CISSS de Laval.

“There are no emergency room users who have tested positive for COVID in connection with this outbreak,” she says.

In response to the situation, the CISSS de Laval will increase the frequency of screening emergency workers, who will now have to be tested three times a week. All hospital employees are also checked at the start of each shift for signs and symptoms of COVID-19, according to CISSS guidelines.

The outbreak does not affect other units in the hospital. “There is no mobility [de personnel] between the units ”, recalls Mr.me Gold Reault.

The epidemiological investigation is underway to determine the origin of the outbreak. The infected employees were sent home as soon as they received their positive test.
