Laurent Batlles will have to develop his first starting composition of the season this Saturday for the reception of Grenoble during the first day of Ligue 2, at 3 p.m. in Geoffroy-Guichard.
While we are at the start of the season, Laurent Batlles must face a first puzzle. An epidemic of gastroenteritis has hit the Saint-Etienne club and several players are uncertain: “I would not say that our team is weakened, there was the disease it is factual but I have a team totally ready. We had an internal opposition this week to try to bring the players up physically after the cancellation of the Montpellier match. They are totally ready for Grenoble. The group is expanded. Anthony Briançon and Léo Pétrot were absent this morning following their illness, it’s a bit of an unknown. Mathis Amougou is injured in the ankle, he will have four to six weeks. Anyone can apply but this virus is difficult to manage, some days you are fine and then after you are bad. It’s viral, no particular provenance, we’ll deal with that for Saturday.”
Other players arrived late in Forez. This is the case of the latest recruit Dylan Batubinsika disembarked on July 21 and Niels Nkounkou et Benjamin Bouchouari returned from vacation on July 26 after playing with their selection this summer.
Re Niels Nkounkou who wishes to leave the club, Loic Perrin said he was applying like the others for a place in the group on Saturday: “He applies like the others. Afterwards, he returned later than the rest of the team, on July 26, he is also not 100% knowing that he resumed a short time ago.” Remarks corroborated a few moments later by Laurent Batlles : “Yes Niels (Nkounkou), like Benji’ (Bouchouari) like Dylan (Batubinsika) who arrived a little later. We have talked about it a lot but we must not fall into certain injuries or overwork either. They are not ready for a full game. It also takes a lot of thought. Today, apart from the case of Mathis (Amougou), we didn’t have too many problems in this preparation, we shouldn’t have more for choices that would be a little disproportionate. We also discuss it with the medical and physical trainers.”
All these uncertainties mean that today, Laurent Batllesdoes not yet know which starting XI he will start with even if he already has some ideas: “Frankly, today, I am already waiting to know the state of form of each to be able to make a decision. In all honesty, given what happened this morning (Thursday), it would be a lie to tell you that I have the eleven. I pretty much know the main lines, however with what is happening, there are days that are less well and maybe tomorrow it will be the case. I operate with great caution even if I have an idea of what I want to put in place.”
