Aurence Fox has said that he is running for mayor of London to “offer a voice to those who are being dominated to keep silent.”
The actor announced in September that he was launching a political party to “vindicate” British values.
Fox told the Telegraph that “the public debate has been strangled.”
He referenced recent protests in which activists called for the removal of the statues, many of which are dedicated to famous Britons who profited from the transatlantic slave trade.

Fox said he was angered by the “disrespect shown to the sacrifices made by previous generations to protect our values, tolerance and freedom.”
Writing for the Sunday Telegraph about his campaign to be the next mayor of London, Mr. Fox said: “This extreme political correctness must be resisted.”
“I hope to speak on behalf of those who are being dominated in silence,” he added.

Fox said it amounted to “approximately £ 1,600 for every family in the country” and had led Rishi Sunak to increase the tax burden to its “highest level in 50 years”.
“Every week that goes by without lifting the lockdown means more jobs lost, more business lost, and even more taxes down the road,” Fox said.
“Since almost all elderly and vulnerable people have received their jab, I want the block to be lifted immediately.
“The government has said that vaccines are working, hospitalizations and deaths are falling, but we are still told that we will not be able to resume normal life until mid-summer at the earliest.

“Both Tory and Labor have been seriously wrong. I want London, and indeed the rest of the country, to be allowed to go back to work and play right away, not at the end of June. ‘
The party said a poll conducted on their behalf by Savanta ComRes found that more than half of all Londoners want the national lockdown lifted by the end of May, and that young people in the capital are even more interested in a quick exit from the closure.
They said the survey saw 1,002 London adults, aged 18 and over, interviewed online from February 18-22.
The father-of-two recently came under fire for bragging on social media about having a “large lunch group” in defiance of lockdown rules.
Fox has already raised £ 1 million for his new political party, including substantial sums from former Conservative donors, according to The Sunday Telegraph.
He has sparked controversy by targeting the “awakening” culture and said he had broken up with an ex when she praised a Gillette ad that highlighted “toxic masculinity.”
The actor sparked a backlash after appearing on the BBC’s question time in January last year, where he said the Duchess of Sussex’s media treatment was not racist, saying such allegations were “boring.”
He added that it was “racist” for a member of the audience to refer to him as a “privileged white male”.
Mr Fox is a former star of the television detective series Lewis and the ex-husband of actress Billie Piper.
