Laura Montauban & Elijah Pasquier: Victorious Moments at European Youth Olympic Festival

Laura Montauban had a day full of emotions this Friday in Maribor, since she won the 100m hurdles ex-aequo with her Croatian opponent, during the European Youth Olympic Festival. Elijah Pasquier, for his part, gave his rivals no chance to win the high jump.

It’s the kind of race you remember for a long, long time. After a long wait related to a reading, then a proofreading, then a thorough re-reading of the photo-finish, the judges of the European Youth Olympic Festival finally ranked Laura Montauban and the Croatian Mia Wild tied to the nearest thousandth ( 13”211) for the gold medal in the 100m hurdles on Friday. Shared happiness for the AO Charenton hurdler, and memories for life. The end of the race really gave the jury a hard time, since the Serbian Zuzanna Zajac, third, was also credited with the same time, 13”22.

In the men’s high jump competition, Elijah Pasquier spared himself any form of suspense, despite a fright at 2.06 m, by being the only one to tame the bar placed at 2.12 m, which gave him a prestigious victory in Slovenia. It is the second best competition of the season for the Ebroïcien, behind his 2.15 m from the Interclubs in May.

Léna Auvray did not go far from bringing back a third medal on the same day, finally taking fourth place in the 5000m walk, in 22’53”54. Third place, occupied by Serbian Mina Stankovic, was five seconds ahead of her. Come Le Baron, sixth in the 3000m in 8’32”80 and Leïla Danet, 7th in the javelin with 49.71m, are the two other finalists of the day on the French side. The men’s medley relay qualified brilliantly for the final by winning their series in 1’53”55, while the women’s collective was unfortunately disqualified.
