Launching of Spanish Version of Bridging the Gap in Sport and Sustainable Development Guide

The Japan Sports Council (JSC) and the International Platform for Sport and Development (sportanddev) are pleased to announce the launch of the Spanish version of the successful global guide and capacity development resource: Bridging the Gap in Sport and Sustainable Development.

Launching the guide in Español The success of the launches continued in English Y Japanesewhich was published in August 2022. The guide, titled “Bridging the Gap in Sport and Sustainable Development: A Guide to Tralating Policy into Practice and Management Programs Effectively”, has strengthened the capacities of actors who use sport to achieve development sustainable around the world. .

More than 4,900 people from 136 countries have used the digital guide in English and Japanese to date (November 2023) with positive feedback from a variety of stakeholders across geographies.

A follow-up survey, conducted by JSC and sportanddev in early 2023, demonstrates the impact of this open-access global resource bridging the gap between policy and practice in the use of sport to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ) and beyond. results. Participants also noted that the comprehensive and practical guide helped them better understand and improve the monitoring and evaluation of their work, a topic that is often neglected.

  • 92% of respondents indicated that they found the guide very useful or useful to enhance and/or review the role of sport in their work.
  • 87% of the participants indicated that the guide was very useful or helpful to strengthen and/or review the monitoring and evaluation of their work.
  • 61% of participants reported that the SDGs and/or other policies impact their work more after using the guide.

The success of the English and Japanese versions of the guide, along with ongoing feedback from Spanish-speaking actors using sport for development around the world, has led to the Spanish guide being translated and revised in a single version. formative survey conducted in 2019 which showed high demand for the aforementioned capacity building resources. Spanish-speaking representatives cited a critical need for guidance to better serve their communities.

Providing the guide in Spanish also contributes to building a more equitable and inclusive Sports for Development sector, ensuring that the voices and contributions of Spanish-speaking actors (even within underrepresented regions such as Latin America) are better represented globally.
