Two weeks after receiving the gold label of “Age-Friendly Cities”, Saint-Denis launched the “Seniors in Action Plan 2023” to allow seniors to take part in activities throughout the year. Registration began on Monday at the Nordev Exhibition Center and will close on Wednesday February 15. “It’s a set of 41 sports, manual or intellectual activities to allow our seniors to maintain their independence for as long as possible”, explains Olivier Allard, director of the senior division at the city of Saint-Denis. The device aims to introduce activities to seniors while allowing them to maintain social ties throughout the year. It allows 4,600 seniors, from the age of 55, to participate “to two of the 41 sports, manual or intellectual activities for only five euros per activity chosen throughout the year”, he specifies. For Christine, 61, “it’s a great idea, I’ve been taking part since last year and the activities are really varied, especially this year”.
“Taking care of our gramounes is taking care of society”
Each week, nearly 180 slots and more than 220 hours will be dedicated to pottery, DIY or even aquagym in all the Dionysian districts. In place for more than ten years, this Senior Plan in Action is constantly evolving and the activities offered have almost doubled this year, going from 26 to 41. “The problem is knowing which activity to choose, we almost want to do everything”, testifies Bernard, freshly registered.
Present at this first day of registration, Éricka Bareigts, Mayor of Saint-Denis, invited “all Dionysians and Dionysians to have an activity that will allow them to age well, take care of their body, their mind and have a real social life”. According to her, “taking care of our gramounes means taking care of Dionysian society, because in a few years there will be more than 300,000 of them in our territory”. As a reminder, registrations will be held until Wednesday, February 15, but for residents in Ehpad, unable to move, it will be possible to register from next week in health establishments.
