Launch of the “Hope” emirati probe in space towards the planet Mars

After having sent their first astronaut, the United Arab Emirates intend to launch this Tuesday, July 14, a probe towards Mars, in the hope of joining the restricted club formed by the United States, the former USSR, India and the European Space Agency. If all goes well, “Al-Amal” (“Hope” in Arabic) should reach the orbit of the red planet next February.

Why it matters. Among the objectives of the Hope probe, it should be the first to provide a complete image of the Martian atmosphere and its layers when it reaches the orbit of the red planet in 2021, in order to learn more about the atmosphere. One of the important steps of the mission will be to understand the structure and variability of hydrogen and oxygen in the upper atmosphere, as well as the reasons why Mars loses them in space.
