The 10th edition of the annual blood donation campaign, initiated by the Center for Inclusive Education and Social Responsibility at Cadi Ayyad University (UCA) in Marrakech, was launched on Tuesday.
Organized in collaboration with the Regional Blood Transfusion Center of Marrakech, under the banner “I give my blood, I save a life”, this humanitarian initiative which will continue throughout the current academic year in the various establishments of the ‘UCA, is part of a partnership between the Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection of Marrakech-Safi and Cadi Aayyad University, aiming to collectively contribute to replenishing the national stock and achieving the self-sufficiency in this vital matter.
This annual campaign, which embodies the commitment and spirit of solidarity demonstrated by UCA teachers, students and administrative staff, tends to strengthen the University’s dynamic of openness to its environment and to support continuous mobilization and volunteer initiatives, thus allowing the Regional Blood Transfusion Center to respond effectively to complex medical situations.
In a statement to MAP, the president of the UCA, Belaid Boukdir, stressed that this campaign has both an educational and ethical dimension, aiming to raise students’ awareness of civic engagement, sharing and participation in solidarity initiatives, specifying that this initiative allows the collection of 2,000 blood bags each year.
He subsequently noted that the objective of the current campaign is to increase the number of blood bags collected, taking into account the large number of young people likely to actively participate in it, recalling the commitment of the students of the UCA during the Al Haouz earthquake, which illustrates their solidarity with the affected populations.
For his part, Mahmoud Abrache, general supervisor and responsible for awareness and blood donation caravans at the Regional Blood Transfusion Center, said that this campaign records an increasing participation of donors each year.
Mr. Abrache also highlighted the role of the UCA Center for Inclusive Education and Social Responsibility in improving the effectiveness of this humanitarian initiative, adding that the organizers are working to broaden student participation by mobilizing the various university clubs and by offering their representatives training on the blood transfusion and blood donation system.
This campaign aims to collect 4,000 bags of blood this year, in order to better meet the daily needs of the Regional Blood Transfusion Center, which vary between 180 and 240 bags per day, compared to only 120 bags during the previous six years.
