Division 3. Launch evening of the 100% female club, with a new team, on and off the field…
In a few years, they will perhaps remember this evening of September 12, 2023 at the Costières stadium, and they will measure how far they have come. Because the buyers of FFNMG (Women’s Football Nîmes Métropole Gard), Nicolas Stevanovic in the lead, have ambition for this 100% girls’ club which should exceed 200 licensees, from U6 to seniors, this season (already 190).
They are aiming to climb to D1 in 5 years. “Five years to succeed,” sums up Mr. Stevanovic. But the road will be long, and we will already have to stay in D3, the new division created this summer. First match on Sunday in Grenoble for the Gladiatrice (their nickname) who unveiled their new jerseys this Tuesday evening, the highlight of a great reception from partners, institutions, businesses, football managers, parents and players.
They will be red or black, with the Maison Carrée inlaid in homage to the UNESCO world heritage site, and the association “Heredity Cancer” on the chest. The FFNMG women’s club hopes, one day, to become an integral part of Nîmes heritage.
“Everything we do, we do it for the girls. Their development is my greatest pride.” Nicolas Stevanovic, September 12, 2023.
They said…
Nicolas Rainville, deputy mayor of Nîmes in charge of sports : “It’s a new era for the club, a new experience for you, the buyers. The mayor, who apologizes, is your first supporter. You have visibility, we are your first partner.”
Nicolas Stevanovic, club buyer and vice-president of the FFNMG : “This evening, which we organized in less than 7 days thanks to Laurent Tourreau (former manager of the Gladiators and former operational manager of Nîmes Olympique), who joined us, is a showcase of the club, a moment of sharing. We need as many people as possible to support us, and an audience to whom we will open the Costières stadium wide (for the D3 and national U19 matches, Editor’s note). We have a great team in the office, with everyone at their post (like in the field!).
We have the first team in D3, which will be the engine and locomotive of the club, we have the U19s who moved up to the national championship (the elite, Editor’s note) and who resisted against Saint-Etienne during the first day, we have quality coaches and we focus on training, unlike others (sic). We would like to have a training center, a sports-studies…”
