Launch of a UNESCO Chair in History and Heritage at the State University of Haiti

In this program we give the floor to Kenrick Demesvar, Doctor of Ethnology and Heritage, specialist in the enhancement and interpretation of heritage. Professor Demesvar is the coordinator of the UNESCO Chair in History and Heritage at the State University of Haiti (UEH).

Officially launched on Wednesday 19 October 2022, the UNESCO Chair in History and Heritage is housed at the Institute of African Studies and Research in Haiti (IEAH), an entity of the State University of Haiti. Its mission is to propose and disseminate a critical reflection on History and Heritage, and its vocation is research, teaching, dissemination and service to the community.

Overall, the UNESCO Chair of the UEH wants to develop academic, scientific and technical knowledge and skills in History and Heritage in order to strengthen the actions of the State and communities in these areas in order to affirm its role as a dynamic center of research and reflection in Haiti and the Caribbean.

In its 2022-2026 action plan, the chair intends to reach around 20,000 students, researchers, teachers and professionals in the first year and for the four years it expects to reach a broad audience of around 100,000 people. It is also planned to set up an archaeological research laboratory at the IEAH.
