In the Grand Reims area, as shown here around the Reims canal in June 2021, the risk of flooding is increasing due to climate change. (© weekly Friday)
Like all French municipalities, Reims has been the victim of more intense meteorological episodes for several years, due to climate change. To prevent the consequences of these phenomena, the urban community of Greater Reims is working on the development of a “Rain Plan”. Its goal is to fully integrate rainfall into land use planning, buildings, streets, green spaces, managing water as close as possible to its point of fall to limit the volume produced by runoff and limit drainage and the concentration of pollutants at points of discharge into the natural environment. In this context, the community has been launching, since November 29, a public inquiry into the zoning of stormwater management. This investigation will then serve to draw up a regulatory document that will apply to future projects, both to private and public sponsors. Compliance with stormwater zoning will be verified when applying for planning permission. It will make it possible to apply prescriptions for the organization of infiltrations and the management of rainwater, taking into account the topographical and geological characteristics. In fact, calcareous soil infiltrates rainwater much better than clayey soil. Therefore, until January 6, anyone interested can read the public inquiry file deposited in each of the offices of the territorial poles (former community of municipalities) and also available on the grandreims.fr website.
