Red Sea – Abdul Rahman Al Qurashi:
Major General Amr Hanafi, Governor of the Red Sea, announced the success of rescue efforts in rescuing 28 people so far from a sinking accident when “Sea Story” was launched north of a city Marsa Alam, while search operations are still ongoing to find 17 other missing people.
The governor indicated that the frigate “Al-Fateh” and the aircraft of the armed forces continue to comb the area in coordination with the Sea Rescue Center and the government’s operations room. He confirmed that the rescued survivors are receiving the necessary medical care, while efforts are being intensified to find the missing people.
Hanafi confirmed that rescue teams are working around the clock to ensure that tasks are carried out quickly, while maintaining the highest levels of safety and security. He also expressed gratitude and appreciation to all parties involved in search and rescue operations, praising the cooperation of the armed forces and field teams in this event.
The governor confirmed that the government will continue to follow developments closely, and that they will announce any developments in good time.
The most prominent nationalities of the boat’s passengers, according to sources in the Marsa Alam City Council, were as follows: 4 Germans, 5 Spaniards, as well as 2 Belgians, one Chinese, 2 Americans, 3 Slovaks, 2 Swiss, 4 British, 2 Poles, 4 Egyptian, 2 Norwegian, one Irish and one Finnish, in addition to the Egyptian crew.
