Initially it was thought that nitrous oxide is not addictive, which now appears to be the case. Doctors in the Netherlands increasingly see patients who need to be treated for nitrous oxide addiction. This is reported by RTL News.<!– –>

Because the effect of a laughing gas balloon is so short and relatively small, experts thought it could not be addictive. But nothing could be further from the truth. It can be addictive both mentally and physically. For example, you need more and more for the same effect and you will get withdrawal symptoms if you stop using it after frequent use.

“Your body does become dependent on it. It’s more addictive than we thought ”, says Dr. Jelmer Weijs on behalf of the Association of Addiction Medicine Netherlands (VVGN). He is increasingly encountering patients who can no longer do without nitrous oxide. “I work in a detox department and now there are also patients with nitrous oxide addiction. Some people need a few days to wean. ”<!– –>
