Brenda Lee’s rock and roll era Christmas classic, “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree,” released in 1958, surprisingly snagged second place, highlighting the timeless nature of some holiday favorites. Wham!’s “Last Christmas” remained a consistent contender, holding onto third place. The only Latvian single to crack the top 20 was “Flamingo” by Bermudu Divstūris and Intar Busuli, landing at number 11.
Focusing solely on Latvian singles, “Piparkūkas danco” by Knīpas un knauķi took second place in week 52, though it only reached number 37 on the overall chart. Greta and Wiesul’s “Vai ne” slipped to 46th place but still held a strong position within the Latvian-only rankings. The dominance of Christmas music was undeniable, with six Christmas songs making up the top 10 Latvian singles, including Laura Reinika’s 2003 hit “Tik balti” and Siegfrīds Muktupāvel’s “Ticot,mīliot und gaidot,” a song composed in 1989 by Helvijs Stengrēvics with lyrics by Jānis Baltauss.
