Latvia’s retail sales continued to grow in May

Compared to May 2020, the total retail trade turnover in May 2021 increased by 3.2%. Retail trade turnover of food products increased by 1.0%. Retail trade of non-food products (except retail trade of automotive fuel) increased by 4.1%, but retail trade of automotive fuel – by 5.2%.

Compared to May 2020, the largest increase in retail trade was recorded in specialized stores for household electrical appliances (24.8%), retail trade in information and communication equipment (21.2%) and retail sale of cultural and retail goods. leisure goods. A significant decline in retail trade was recorded in trade in clothing, footwear and leather goods (by 15.9%)

and retail sale of appliances, tools, construction materials and sanitary equipment (2.9%).

Total retail sales at current prices increased by 8.9% (taking into account the impact of the calendar).

According to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices, compared to April, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises in May 2021 decreased by 3.9%. Retail trade in food products decreased by 2.1%. Retail trade of non-food products (excluding retail sale of automotive fuel) decreased by 6.4%, while retail sale of automotive fuel – by 1.1%.

Compared to the previous month, the largest increase was in retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialized stores (2.9%) and retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (2.2%). The largest declines in sales were in retail sale of appliances, tools, construction materials and healthcare equipment (by 12.7%), retail sale via mail order houses or online centers (4.0%) and retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (3.8%). ).

Compared to April, in May 2021, the total volume of retail trade at current prices (excluding seasonality) increased by 1.9%.
