LHF General Secretary Roberts Plūjejs emphasized that women’s hockey in Latvia is developing, with the number of players also increasing. Therefore, the federation expects that the organization of the world championship tournament will give a greater impetus to the growth of women’s hockey.
The Latvian women’s hockey team, under the leadership of Finnish specialist Hannu Saintulas, remained undefeated in the second division group A tournament of the World Championship in Mexico in April, earning the opportunity to move up one level.
Since last season, experienced women’s hockey specialist Saintula has taken over the leadership of the women’s hockey team, who spent most of his coaching career as the head coach of the Finnish women’s team, which became a four-time World Championship bronze medalist. Saintula has also managed the Chinese women’s national team and Finland’s top league teams Espoo Blues and Kiekko-Espoo.
