Eliza studied English at the Latvian International School, but at the age of 13 she asked her parents to send her to a boarding school in Ascot, England. Later, she studied classical music and opera vocals at the University of East Anglia with a scholarship, and obtained a bachelor’s degree. Eliza currently lives in London, supports herself with music, and makes really big plans.
You have to deal with what you like
“Kas Jauns” contacts Eliza Legzdins on a weekday morning, and the determined girl is ready to tell about herself. She is pleased with what she has done so far, but emphasizes that she is only at the beginning of her journey. In the conversation, Eliza leaves a pleasant impression, she is simple, sincere and very purposeful.
Asked how it turned out that he could afford not to live in the cheapest city in the world, Eliza emphasizes – it has always been purposeful. She says that since childhood she has been aware that she wants to work in music: “When I was a little girl, I watched TV and danced with commercials, music jingles, but when I was ten, I realized that I really like Latvian music, our stage. . But even then, I knew that I wanted to strive for something more, to express myself on a larger scale, so I realized the need to learn foreign languages, and my mother sent me to an international school at an early age. ”
Eliza says she is influenced by other people’s lives. “I have always been interested in stories about women who are very beautiful, not afraid to get out of the frame, not like others. So I was grateful for the opportunity to study in England and stayed here because I was hit. I must not stop. If I don’t keep making music, I’ll lie to myself. If you are a creative person, then talent must be developed. If you don’t, it’s only worse. I can’t explain it in words, but it seems to me that it’s like passing on energy – if you have that energy, you have to use it, “she is convinced.
Did not give up during the pandemic
Speaking about her career, Eliza emphasizes that the key is to achieve the goal. “London is really not the cheapest place to live. And I would lie if I said that it would be easy to make a living doing music. But I have the privilege of doing so, and I have enough of what I get and where my life is going. Because when I started my career in the music field, a pandemic started. It was not the best time. I was in Los Angeles as a tour manager for another artist when life in the field stopped. So it can be said that I started my journey at the funniest moment. But at the same time I endured, I fought for my place, I tried to go in my direction, I focused more on writing music, I gained contacts in the music industry, with producers, television. And so it became easier for me to break out, ”says Elīza, adding that her income comes from royalties for songs played on radio stations, royalties for concerts.
“Of course, I still have to grow, but the last song with Idris Elba is well played on radio stations. I haven’t received royalties for that yet, but the wallet is filled with projects implemented last year. To whom? My first album was on one TV show, which went pretty well on both the BBC in England and the US. ”
Compared to Madonna
How can you get to work with Idris? Who found it, was it another coincidence? “No! In general, Idriss found me because his music manager works in the same company as the manager of my good friend’s Irish musician. He was told that Idriss was looking for a singer who would be both a rapper and a house musician. When I found out, I asked that the music be sent to me. And everything else is a thing of the past, Idris and I have a song! ” smiles Eliza.
And when asked what his first feelings were when he learned that Idriss Elba had chosen him, he answered: “It was a surprise to me – in the sense that Idriss is not a musician, he is a big star as a film actor. It wasn’t like his offer was like a shock, it was already interesting, it was something new. Idriss is a very kind, talented and hardworking person. The first thing he sent me was a voice message saying, “Oh, yes! The melodies and phrases she sings sound like Madonna in the eighties! ” I think that when I am about fifty years old, I will play his compliment in public. But in general I am very grateful that he trusted such a little Latvian girl that I had the opportunity to get to know his team, his producers, sing a song with him.
When that was done, Idriss sent me a message: “Thank you for doing this, it was really good! Everything will only go up for us. ” Of course, I don’t get money from heaven, but it’s still a great success. Work with a global star who can choose to collaborate with anyone, but he chooses exactly me! It’s … It’s kind of a good feeling, isn’t it ?! ”
With big plans for the future
Eliza will soon release the single “Rose Tinted Glasses”, which was made in collaboration with two English musicians, but she plans to release several more songs by the end of the year. The singer also hopes to perform in Latvia at the end of August, to collaborate with Latvian musicians.
Eliza works with her first and last name in music, she has not adopted any pseudonym or stage name. “I am proud to be Latvian, to have my own name. I am now working on setting up my own record company. Because I want to keep all my recordings, my copyrights, for myself, not to give them back to another producer or record company, ”the musician reveals, saying that this record company will be called” My Navel “.
Why such an unusual name? “Because my mother always told me that I was not the navel of the world, but I, as a stupid teenager, would admit that someday everyone would sleep on my navel. But in reality, the navel associates me with the fact that everyone comes from something divine and that we are created by the love of the mother, that the mother is the person who will always think and take care of us. With the name “My navel” I want to remind everyone that my navel is a link with my mother, with my ancestors, with Latvia, where I came from. “
Aren’t they too ambitious, or will the Latvian girl have enough entrepreneurship? “It simply came to our notice then. I have to open all the doors myself, not wait for someone to do it for me. That’s why it’s important for me to take my ideas, my music as far as I can. Of course, I’m still fighting for my place in the music business, but I’m already starting to be accepted as a music writer. I can create music, I do it fast. I think that it will be useful over time – that I will express myself more as a musician than as a singer. I want to prove that women can also be good music authors and producers, that we are not the only ones who take the stage, turn their breasts and sing songs by other authors, ”Elīza Legzdiņa is convinced.
With spicy photos online
On social networks, Eliza quite often publishes photos in lingerie, showing off her round feminine shapes. Why is she doing this?
“I have always been at full height, which does not meet accepted beauty standards. I remember that as a teenager, it made me feel out of touch with society. But when I grew up and started performing, singing and dancing on stage, I accepted myself as I am. And now I really like to use my body as part of my performance. Because it is important to be free, to accept yourself as you are. That’s why I’m not ashamed to post more open photos. But it’s not about eroticism, it’s about calling others to be ashamed of themselves. “
“Many people think that with these photos I am trying to attract men’s attention, but in my case it is not. I have even received many letters of thanks from other women for setting a positive example, that I show that I love myself with all my pros and cons “Yes, this is really the main message I want to convey to other people with these photos – don’t be shy! I feel free and I invite others to be free and not to get bogged down,” emphasizes the Latvian musician in London.
