“It’s definitely not our level yet. We still have a lot to learn. I hope this match is a good lesson, how important is the game plan and its execution, confidence in one’s abilities, as well as experience,” after the Latvian U-18 national team match, head coach Oļegs Sorokin’s statement was cited by the Latvian Hockey Federation.

“I would like to hope that this game gives us more than just a big defeat, as well as victories in the future,” adds the coach.

“We didn’t follow the game plan. We even lost the match. We finally started playing, but it was too late,” says striker Markus Streikisch. “Attention! Let’s forget about this game and move on.”

It has already been reported that in the first match of the tournament the Latvian hockey players lost 1:3 to the Canadian team from the East, but in the second extra time they defeated their Swedish counterparts 3:2.

The Latvian national team will close the subgroup tournament on Friday with a match against the US national team.

The top four teams will advance to the semifinals of the World Junior A Challenge tournament. The competition will be over for the fifth placed team. The final of the tournament is scheduled for Sunday.
