Latvian U20 women’s basketball team wins FIBA ​​”Challenger” tournament (VIDEO)

The Latvian U-20 women’s basketball team won the FIBA ​​”Challenger” tournament in Sofia on Sunday. Latvian basketball players won their peers from Bulgaria with the result 74:58 (22:16, 20:10, 17:11, 15:21).

Jete Katrīna Nulle stood out in the Latvian national team with 20 points, who realized six of the eight long shots, 11 points were scored by Pauls Kleshchevs, and ten points were won by Katie Vihmane. The team led by Mārtiņš Zībarts won three of the five games in Sofia. German, Croatian and Bulgarian basketball players were beaten, but Belgium and Italy suffered losses.

16 players took part in the training of the Latvian U20 national team, 12 of whom went to Sofia. Among them were two NCAA Championship players Jete Nulle and Paula Mauriņa, as well as Laura Meldere, player of the Italian A-Series unit Venice “Umana Reyer”. The selection is led by Mārtiņš Zībarts, assisted by Mudīte Gūtmane and Edgars Ikstens.

Due to the difficult epidemiological situation, the Board of the International Basketball Federation European Zone (FIBA Europe) canceled the 2021 European Youth Championships. In order to ensure the practice of the games, an informal competition series will be organized – FIBA ​​“Challengers”. Latvian U-18 and U-16 girls’ and boys’ teams will also take part in them (the U-18 girls’ tournament will take place in Riga at the end of July).
