Latvian U-20 hockey players lose their important game to their Belarusian peers – Hockey

Latvia conceded to Belarus 1: 2 (0: 0, 0: 1, 1: 1).

Raivis Ansons scored the only goal for the Latvian national team.

Belarus earned a two-minute rejection both in the middle of the first third and at the beginning of the second, but the Latvians failed to use the majority.

In turn, the Belarusians used the first rejection in the Latvian national team in the middle of the second period, earning Niken Fennenko a two-minute penalty. Three seconds before the end of the minority, the goalkeeper Bruno Brewer’s rebound was sent by Ilya Spats – 1: 0 in favor of Belarus.

Soon after, Daniels Mūrnieks also earned rejection, but it was left without consequences.

In the third period, Latvia had another opportunity in the majority, but remained untapped. The trip for two hockey players against one defender ended in a throw past the empty corner of the goal.

Belarusian hockey players demonstrated in the 53st minute. Aleksandrs Suvorovs, approaching the goal from the left, did not pass, but sent the puck into the far corner – 2: 0.

In the 55th minute, the puck was also in the Belarusian goal for the first time, but Ralf Bergmanis scored the puck in the goal after the solo walk after the referee’s whistle.

This caused one player from both teams, including Bergman, to go on the penalty bench and continue the game with four hockey players.

26 seconds later Raivis Ansons broke into the goal alone against the goalkeeper Alexei Kolosov, but was stopped by an unauthorized method, the referee sentenced a free throw.

Anson himself did the same by skating from the right and sending the puck to the goal between the catch glove and the handguard – 1: 2.

In the last two minutes Latvia played without a goalkeeper, but the result could not be equalized.

In the tournament table, nine points are in three games for Belarus, six for Latvia, and Norway and Kazakhstan have scored three points in two battles, while Hungary and Denmark are still in the lead.

At the start of the tournament on Sunday, the Latvian juniors beat their peers from Norway with 4: 2, but on Monday in a heavy fight with 5: 4 – the home team from Denmark. The Belarusians have had two convincing victories so far – 9: 1 over Denmark and 8: 2 over Hungary.

On Thursday, the Latvian team will have a match with Hungary, but on Saturday there will be a match with Kazakhstan. Only the winners of the group will receive a ticket to the elite division.

In preparation for the tournament in charge, Kārlis Zirnis’ subordinates held the Four Nations Tournament in Jelgava in November, where they played Denmark 3: 2, conceded 1: 2 to the Austrians and 1: 6 capitulated to their Belarusian peers. Test matches with Optibet Hockey League (OHL) teams Zemgale / LLU and Mogo / LSPA were also held on December 6 and 8.

The head coach of the U-20 national team Kārlis Zirnis went to Denmark from the initial list of 43 candidates with 24 hockey players – three goalkeepers, eight defenders and 13 attackers.

Last year, the first division group A championship was not held, but two years ago, the Latvians failed to win the group and return to the elite. At the beginning of 2017, Latvia played in the elite division, but lost in all games, which led to a lower tournament.
