Wismane paired with Astahova, who is participating in the competition as a neutral athlete, was seeded as the first number in the tournament and in the final beat the German Laura Böhner and the Argentinian Berta Bonardi, who were the third seed, 6-3, 6-2.
Wismane and Astakhova were free from the first round, but then won two wins and reached the final without losing a single set.
For the victory, Wismane reached 50 points in the WTA doubles ranking.
LOK will listen to the explanation of LTS and Vismanes, but then decide on a possible further course of action, reports Latvijas Radio.
This is not the first case when a Latvian tennis player plays with a representative of an aggressor country. In May, Daria Semenistaya played in a duet with Sofia Lancer from Russia, who has represented the Central Sports Club of the Russian Army, or CSKA.
“One thing is that we will wait for the athlete’s own explanations, but the other thing will be a conversation with the Tennis Union, how to proceed in this situation,” Lejnieks told Latvian Radio.
Meanwhile, LTS General Secretary Jānis Mellup explained to Latvian Radio that he was not informed about Vismane’s case.
Vismane is included in the bronze team of the Latvian Olympic Team (LOV) and receives state support and assistance in the field of medicine. She has also represented the Latvian national team.
Wismane currently ranks 375th in the WTA singles ranking.
